Benjamin Tang
Benjamin Tang, president of Melodeebee Music, started his musical journey in fourth grade, studying the trumpet under Professor Chris Gekker of the University of Maryland. Since then, he has fallen in love with all aspects of music and frequently takes part in organizing community events. Ben has auditioned and been selected to the Montgomery All-County and Maryland All-State Honors Band consecutively since 7th grade. He has auditioned and participated in the Potomac Valley Youth Orchestra for 2 seasons (2017-2019) and the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra for 5 seasons (2018-2023) up to the Philharmonic. Ben has also attended the summer trumpet solo performance programs at Interlochen and Philadelphia International Music Festival (PIMF) where he had the opportunity to study under numerous world-renowned trumpet players. This summer, he attended the Tanglewood summer program. Outside of band and orchestra, he has had experience with solo performances and chamber groups including brass quintets and mixed ensembles with the help of his current teacher Kevin Businsky. In 2022, Ben won second prize in American Protege’s International Brass and Wind solo Competition.
