Alex Laverty

Alex Laverty, Director of Illinois Operations, is from Chicago. His passion for cello began in elementary school and he quickly joined the Merit School of Music. It was here that Alex had the opportunity to attend the Suzuki Music Convention in Matsumoto, Japan in 2012. While his school, the Latin School of Chicago, does not have a string orchestra, Alex has been a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra since 2013, beginning his 8th year with the organization this fall. Alex has attended Interlochen (2014), the Philadelphia International Music Festival (2018, 2020), and Birch Creek Music Performance Center (2019) on scholarships. Beyond music, Alex sails competitively for his high school and enjoys solving Rubik’s cubes and biking. Through Melodeebee, Alex hopes to gain teaching experience to help spread his love for music.
